Adopting a pet can be a rich, rewarding experience that results in a lifetime of companionship, but having a pet isn't for everyone. Be sure you are ready to adopt. Visit our adoptable animals page to see who may be a good fit for your family.

Without our volunteers, it would be difficult to take such great care of our animals each day. Whatever your skill set or passion, we have an option for you to volunteer with the Shepherd of the Hills Humane society. And regardless of what you do, you will leave feeling rewarded and having made a difference in someone's day!

Fosters provide a temporary home for pets in our care while they are awaiting their forever home. Foster homes can help care for animals that are too young to be adopted or help animals transition from the stress of being at the shelter.

"She (Twix) is doing really well! She has all the energy in the world and never stops playing and moving"

We adopted PeeWee (now Joe) from y'all back in March and we just wanted to say thank you again and send some new photos of him. He's doing great and we're so happy he's with us! We had some family photos taken recently and he was a natural. Posed like a pro. We appreciate what y'all do there and are grateful that organizations like yours give the dogs and us a chance to find each other."

"Here is an update on Bleu (formerly know as Snoopy). He is the best dog. We have had him since January and he is a blessing. We just got back from a trip to the smoky mountains and Nashville a few weeks ago. He rocked the trip. He is very laid back. We are so glad we adopted him. He is great with our grandchildren. Today we went to a petting zoo and the other animals loved him. Attached you will see him with a camel and on our trip. Forgot to add we named him Branson Bleu. He goes by Bleu."

"Toto is now Romeo and he has completely settled in. What a joy he is. He loves to play, he loves to learn and he loves to cuddle. We take two or three walks every day and he is responding very well to the normal commands. Overall we couldn't be happier with this little guy. Our groomer said he was an absolute dream to groom. Everything about this experience has been wonderful, we couldn't have asked for more. Thanks to Shepherd of the Hills Humane Society staff for everything."
